How To Prepare For a GSSF Event: What You Need To Know

Posted by Ghost Inc on

When you think about durability and reliability in the handgun market, you probably think about Glock pistols. If this is what you imagine when you picture the perfect handgun, you are not alone. Furthermore, there are so many people who enjoy firing Glock pistols that there are actually competitive shooting matches that people can enter. This was started by the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF) in 1991. There are more than fifty competitions held every year across the United States. These competitions are designed for people of varying skill levels. That way, there are low barriers to entry for those who would like to get started in the world of competitive shooting. If you don't have a lot of experience, that is okay! There is probably a GSSF event for you.

What Do You Need To Do To Prepare for a GSSF Match?

If you would like to enter a GSSF event, there are a few steps that you need to follow. First, you need to sign up for a GSSF membership. If you already have a membership, you should make sure it is active. You have to have a current registration in order to sign up for an upcoming match. A new membership costs $35. If you would like to renew your membership, this costs $25 per year. There are discounts available for those who work in certain areas.

If you have already renewed your membership, or you have made sure it is current, the next step is to go through the pre-registration process. That way, when you walk up to the shooting range, you save a lot of time. Instead of waiting in a long line on the day of the event, you can sign up in advance through the pre-registration process. In order to pick the right match, you have to know about the various matches available.

The Types and Divisions of GSSF Registrations

First, there are three separate types of registration for GSSF events. They are:

  • The main match competition is open to all master and amateur competitors
  • The Glock girls side match division is open to all amateur and master female GSSF competitors
  • The pocket girls division is designed for people who shoot the Glock 42 and 43

After you have selected your registration, you have to find the main match that fits you. These are divided into multiple divisions. They include:

  • The Amateur civilian match division is open to all amateur competitors
  • The Amateur and Master Subcompact division is open to Glock 26, 27, 29, 30, 33, 39, and 43X
  • The Amateur and Master Major Subcompact uses the same pistols above; however, it can only be loaded with 7 rounds
  • The Amateur and Master Unlimited allows users to participate with Glock pistols that feature aftermarket parts or certain modifications

Depending on where you are located, there may be additional divisions available to you.

Find the Right Class

After choosing your registration and division, you have to find the right class. There are three separate classes available. These include:

  • The Master class is meant for competitive shooters. If you have a certification awarded from a professional sports shooting organization, this is the class for you.
  • The Guardian class is reserved for law enforcement officers. These are officers at the federal, state, county, or Municipal levels.
  • The amateur classes for non-professional shooters. These are individuals who are not law enforcement, military, or otherwise do not have special training.

Once you find the right class, you have to check-in. The check-in process on the day of the event is relatively easy. You simply have to verify that your firearm, ammunition, magazines, and all additional parts meet the requirements of the competition.
