Glock Generations Explained
Posted by
onIf you are looking for a reliable handgun, there is a good chance you have come across Glock pistols. They are durable, accurate, and easy to maintain. At the same time, you have probably seen that Glock pistols and handguns are usually broken up into different generations. Every so often, Glock pistols get upgraded. They come with revised features, natural incremental changes, and a variety of customization options. If you are interested in learning about the difference between multiple Glock pistols you may be looking at in the store, you need to understand the different generations. What are they? What are the differences?
The First Generation of Glock Pistols
The first generation of Glock pistols began to emerge during the 1980s. The first pistol was the Glock 17. Furthermore, the Glock 17 is the only pistol in this generation.
The Glock 17 sold in large numbers; however, they are getting harder to find. There were numerous features tied to the first generation. This included a polymer frame, some texturing around the grip, some sights, and controls on the left side. This was a bare-bones pistol that was designed to be light, accurate, and durable. Because it was so simple, it was reliable and easy to maintain. As a result, it became popular among numerous military organizations and law enforcement agencies.
The Second Generation of Glock Pistols
The second generation of Glock pistols was released in 1988. This included a variety of updates to the Glock 17 as well as the release of the Glock 19. The Glock 19 has been one of the most popular handguns ever designed. It is easy to carry, small enough to conceal, and relatively simple to shoot. Because the Glock 19 is so light, it is incredibly accurate, even in the hands of people who have never fired a gun before.
The second generation came with a steel plate, a serial number to appease government regulations and a new magazine. A resistance insert was added at the bottom of the follower spring, making the magazine more reliable.
The Third Generation of Glock Pistols
The third generation was formally introduced in 1998. This came with a variety of updates as well as new calibers. For the first time, Glock pistols could handle the .357 Sig and .45 GAP.
An accessory rail was added to the dust cover to allow lasers and lights to be added to the handgun. In addition, the new frame included a thumb rest, making the gun easier to hold. A new cross pin was also added above the trigger pin to alleviate the stress placed on the locking block. This made Glock pistols even more durable.
The Fourth Generation of Glock Pistols
The fourth generation of Glock pistols debuted in 2010. This featured a new textured grip, keeping the gun from slipping. In addition, there was a dual magazine spring added to the pistol, reducing recoil. A new generation of the Glock 17 was introduced in addition to a new generation of the Glock 22. Updates to the Glock 19 and 23 were also added. The Glock 26 and 27 were also introduced during this generation. The Glock 42 and Glock 43 also enter production during this time.
The Glock Silver Slimline Pistols
Many gun experts are unsure of where to place the slimline pistols when it comes to Glock generations. Therefore, they are often placed in their own generation. This series consists of the Glock 48 and the Glock 43X. These guns have a similar frame and magazine. They are a bit wider and longer than the Glock 43 itself. The biggest differences are the slide and barrel. A Glock 48 has an identical barrel to the Glock 19. The Glock 43X has the same barrel as the Glock 43. There are forward-facing serrations as well as a different finish on these pistols. Because they don't really fit in any generation, they are usually left off to the side.
