How Many Parts Does a Glock Have?

Posted by Ghost Inc. on

The Glock is a polymer frame, recoil-operated, lock-breech, semi-auto pistol. It is renowned for being easy to handle, reliable, accurate, and versatile. The Glock is considered the ideal platform to learn on, while at the same time, it is used by professional law enforcement, military, and security forces all around the world.

Glock Popularity

With popularity come questions. One question we hear quite a lot is, “How many parts are Glocks made from?” This is, in essence, is a reliability question- because it is generally true that the more moving parts a machine contains, the less reliable it will be. Of course, the design and material quality of those parts are probably more important in determining reliability than the number of parts. Still, it’s a question worth answering.

While the Glock platform almost certainly has more parts than the average revolver design- it still has a very low total number of parts for the type of gun that it is. Most factory standard Glocks have 34 total parts.

Glock is Easily Field Stripped and Cleaned

This weapon platform was designed to be easily field stripped and cleaned, and the materials chosen were chosen to deliver high corrosion resistance. The markedly low number of parts combined with corrosion-proof and corrosion-resistant, high-impact materials make Glocks one of the most- if not the most- reliable firearms ever created.

Glock is Easy To Maintain

The idea behind the design was to make the weapon easy to maintain in the field. In fact, a qualified Glock armorer can fully disassemble and reassemble any Glock in less than five minutes. The original design was based on field stripping and cleaning trials, leading finally, to a design that can be properly maintained with the minimum amount of downtime.

Glock is Comfortable and Ergonomic

In addition to ease of field stripping, cleaning, and reassembling, the low number of parts contribute to making Glock one of the most comfortable to use and ergonomic guns on the market. Their low bore axis contributes to minimum recoil and the lightweight of the gun makes recoil fast and easy to recover from.

Glock Integrated Holster

By building perfectly integrated holsters, the Glock platform has no need for a safety- which can only raise the risk of failing to fire when the moment of need arises. Not having an additional lever, button, or other external control feature in order to engage or release a safety contributes to the low part number and the impressive comfort and ergonomics of this brand of firearm. The creator of the platform knew early on that when a shooter is trained to handle the weapon correctly, the real and the best safety- as we are fond of saying- is between your ears.

Glock Extractor

The Glock extractor behaves like a Loaded Chamber Indicator. It does this by both physically and visually telling the operator whether or not a cartridge is in the chamber. This is an outstanding safety feature that few other firearms have, eliminating one of the most significant safety hazards that plague inexperienced shooters.

Glock Back Strap

The back strap is designed to easily separate from the gun to allow the owner to remove and replace it with a back strap that better suits his hand. Also, the reversible magazine release lets the gun be quickly and easily adapted to either right-handed or left-handed shooters.

The low number of parts and the simplicity of the Glock platform make it what it is- the go-to firearm for beginners, hobbyists, and professionals alike.
