Glock Trigger Housing & Its Purpose

Posted by Ghost Inc. on

The Glock trigger housing is one of the most important Glock parts that holds all the parts of the trigger system inside the Glock. Many small pieces make up the trigger system, and the housing keeps everything compact. Different models of the Glock have differences in the trigger housing, but most work under the same method. Some are smaller than other models.

Glock Trigger Improvements

The trigger system was always an issue when it came to repairs. The Glock Gen 5 is on the right path to correcting the problems in the previous models regarding the trigger system. As the years pass, more improvements will be made to make the Glock perfect.

Most issues came from the gun owner's negligence, such as holsters pushing on the trigger, not having the safety engaged, removing the safety system, and storing the gun in the wrong locations. Glock continues working on the mechanical and safety issues to keep the gun owners safe and the Glock working correctly.

How Does the Glock Trigger Housing Work?

Minor changes are made to the trigger system for each model, but for the most part, everything works the same. The trigger housing keeps everything together as the mechanical parts inside the Glock do their thing.

Glock Trigger Safety

The Glock has three safety points:

  1. The safety of the trigger itself. It blocks the trigger from pulling back to fire.
  2. A plunger stops the firing pin from going forward to hit the primer on the bullet.
  3. The shoe is at the end of the trigger bar. It sits against the shelf, stopping the firing pin from striking the primer.

This third safety device is like a backup that keeps all the safety devices intact, even when the gun is dropped, and the other two devices fail. Read our blog on Glock Drop Safety.

Pulling the Glock Trigger

When the gun owner pulls the trigger, this is how the bullet is fired out of the gun. Inside the Glock trigger housing, this is what happens:

  1. The trigger is pulled.
  2. The arm moves forward, hitting the primer in the bullet.
  3. The bullet is released in a spiral mode for accuracy.
  4. The shell is ejected from the chamber.
  5. A new bullet is pulled up from the magazine and appropriately placed in the chamber as the old shell is ejected.
  6. The gun is then ready to be fired again.
